Abstract
Designing a new railway alignment is a challenging task. Railway network plays an important role in the economic development of the region. Various track parameters are considered during fixation of alignment for new feasible route. Economic, social, environmental and various other factors are considered in selection for proper alignment fixation. The important work involved in laying of new railway line is land acquisition. The track alignment mainly includes straight lines, circular arcs and transition curves. The main design concept of the curved route is complex as it involves making decisions based on topography of the location, climatic conditions, and availability of land for construction on the particular chosen area. The purpose of the bypass railway line was to prevent goods trains from entering the city. And doubling of the existing railway line would not be an alternative for the bypass line. By preventing the entry of goods trains to Hubballi junction station, Indian Railway will be able to introduce more and more passenger trains in this section. With the introduction of more trains, it will bring in more and more tourists and thus helps in increasing the employment, business potential and socio-economic development of the entire North Karnataka area.Downloads
