Abstract

Transportation planning has played a critical role in shaping the economic health and quality of life of the general public. It not only provides insight into the mobility of people and goods, but also influences patterns of growth and economic activity. Intersection forms a vital nodal point of a transportation network of an urban area and their efficiency of operation has a great impact on the entire network performance. The most significant parameter that influences the design of signal plan is the Saturation Flow Rate. Saturation flow is the basis for the determination of traffic signal timings and for the evaluation of intersection performance. Two-wheelers constitute a major proportion of urban traffic in developing countries and therefore their effect on saturation flow at signalized intersection could be substantial. This project attempts to study and analyse the effect of two-wheelers on the saturation flow of signalized intersections by collecting data at a signalized intersection in Bangalore, India.
