Improvement in Strength and Durability properties of Bacterial concrete with partial replacement of Silica Fume: An Experimental Investigation

Abstract

Microbiologically Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation is the process of production of calcite precipitation. Spore forming bacteria can be added to concrete for precipitating calcite continuously to prepare bacterial concrete. The main aim of this study is to observe the behavior of Bacillus Sphaericus, Escherichia Coli and Pseudomonas putida bacteria on strength and durability properties of concrete, also know the effect of replacement of cement with mineral admixture silica fume (20% by weight). The tests were carried out on the strength and durability properties after complete curing of 28 days. Inclusion of bacteria’s in concrete has an ability to enhance strength and improve durability of n visualized by SEM and confirmed by EDX analysis.
