Poisonous fishes

Abstract

Most of the poisonous fishes inhabit in deep ocean and tend to occur in large numbers around coral islands. The toxin is distributed in their mucus, blood, musculature, gonads and viscera of these fishes. Intensity of poison seem to be related with feeding, environment, time, habitat, reproductive cycle etc. Ichthyotoxins consists of specific chemicals and has been reported to cause several dangerous symptoms, leading to even death, if eaten by human beings and other mammals. Perhaps, fish is an easily available rich source of nutritious and balanced diet, yet be selected according to their characteristics and suitability as food for human beings.
