Abstract

Blackbuck was more or less distributed in whole Rajasthan at the time of independence but now this species is confined to 21 districts only. Now there is no continuity in distribution in the state. Now whole population has splitted into two groups, one is confined to west of the Aravallis and another is located east of this mountain chain and Hadoti zone. A populationless strip has appeared in the mid of the state from the North to South direction. To protect the species, habitat conservation and restoration in needed. Check on poaching is also needed.
