Abstract

In the present research paper, an attempt has been made to investigate the relationship between self efficacy and health promoting behaviors among overweight and obese females. It is hy-pothesized that persons having high health related self efficacy are better able to regulate their weight by adopting healthy behaviors. For this purpose, a sample of 40 overweight/ 0bese fe-males in age range of 20 to 30years was taken. The health related self efficacy was measured by using ‘Health related self efficacy questionnaire’ and “ change in BMI (Body Mass Index)’ was calculated by measuring the height (in Meters) and weight (In kilograms ) at the start of the study and at the end of the three months. The Person correlation coefficient was calculated between the two variables-“Health related self efficacy” and change in B.M.I.’ which was (-) . 83. The result reveals a negative correlation i.e. (-) . 83 between –“Health related self efficacy” and ‘change in B.M.I.’ indicating that persons with high health related self efficacy are able to reduce their weight and accordingly BMI by adopting healthy behaviors.
