Landslides in Uttarakhand Himalaya: With special reference to Nature Disaster of 2013

Abstract

In the present time self centered superfluity development by human increases the imbalance of environment and causes natural disasters like flood, landslides etc, People are interested to ex-ploit more and more natural resources form the Himalaya; although , our ancestors and saints had seen Himalaya with respect and honour. The famous poet of Sanskrit Maha Kavi Kalidas has said that Himalaya is the soul of God (Devtas) [“vLR;qrjL;k fnf”k nsorkRek fgeky;ks uke uxkf/kjkt.” ¼ dqekjlEHo and1 )]. From the ancient times , human, birds , animals etc are dependent on the nature, Therefore , it is essential to keep balance in environment in the interest of all creatures, otherwise natural disaster occur and destroy the lives and properties at many places. These natural calamities are fateful events depleting life, wealth and natural resources besides leading to irreversible dangerous effects on human life, Visualising situation due to natural disaster of past 16-17June 2013 in Uttarakhand, suggestions have been made to incorporate suitable measures to be under-taken with gradually increasing techniques, besides preventing unnecessary disturbance in nature and becoming more sensitive and concerned with it.
