Abstract

The book "Manual of Tea Cultivation" written by Dr. V.S. Sharma, Former Director of UPASI Tea Research Institute and currently Technical Adviser, The Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd., brings together a lifetime of experience of research and industry in a compact, well-written volume. The book is written as a manual and there is no ambiguity in the recommendation. I like his style which is straight forward and to the point. I have found the book informative and useful. It gives practical recommendations on tea growing in south India. It will be a very useful book for planters in south India. Some of the recommendations and practices are specific for south Indian conditions and are not applicable in northeast India. The book will be useful as a reference for all planters including those in Assain, Bengal and north India. Information on nursery grafting, mechanical harvesting and Chapter 12 will be of interest to all. It is a useful reference book for all the planters and tea libraries.
